ASTM D 3511, Standard Test Method for Pilling Resistance and Other Related Surface Changes of Textile Fabrics: (Brush Pilling Tester)

Scope: Determines the resistance to the formation of pills and other related surface changes of textile fabrics using the brush pilling tester.

  • Sample is conditioned in atmospheric condition for textiles
  • 6 specimens are cut in 9" X 9" squares, two each from the right, center, and left areas across the width of the sample
  • Specimens are mounted and brushed for 4 minutes
  • Specimens are then mounted face-to-face and ran for 2-minutes
  • The samples are evaluated in a viewing apparatus against photographic standards (ASTM ADJD 3512) or in house fabric standards
